Getting Started via the Form

Overview

Creating contacts and backlinks via the form is the recommended method to manage your backlinks after an import or if you are just getting started with backlink tracking and currently do not have any existing links to import.

Choosing which form

BacklinkTrack allows you to create links using two different methods:

  1. Through a New contact form. Choose this form if you would like to track the contact information of organizations you are receiving links from or are sending links to.
  2. Through a New link form. Choose this form if you are only interested in capturing link information.

Open the chosen form

  1. Log in
  2. On the left menu, click on Backlinks
  3. On the Backlinks page, on the top right, click New contact or New link

Complete the "new link" form

If you have chosen to create links using the New link form, follow these instructions.

The form contains several fields, below are detailed descriptions for each field:

  1. Link direction - A dropdown that allows you to choose whether or not this link is inbound or outbound.
  2. Date link created - The date that the link was created, the default value for this field is today.
  3. Web page URL - This is the web page you would like to analyze and ensure has the link.
  4. Expected link URL - This is the web page that you are expecting the link to take visitors to.
  5. Expected link text - This is a field that you can optionally fill in to check if the right text was used in the link, helpful if you want to ensure a keyword is used.
  6. Audit manually? - Check this box if you would like to exclude this link from automatic link audits.
  7. Notes and hashtags - Provide any rough notes about this link that you think you might need in the future. Any words entered in this box starting with a "#" will be automatically detected as hashtags. Hashtags can be used to filter and sort links on the listing page.

Save the form

Once you have completed all the fields, click the "save button" to save your link.

Within 30 minutes of creating any new inbound or outbound link, BacklinkTrack will audit the link once. Subsequent audits will depend on the frequency of your subscription plan.

Complete the "new contact" forms

If you have chosen to create links using the New contact form, follow these instructions.

There are two types of forms within the contact form page, the contact form and the link(s) form(s).

Underneath each field, you will find a short description of what each field is for. On this help page, we will describe each field in more detail.

To help explain how to complete this form, we will use an example.

Imagine you are the owner of a travel blog.

An article on your blog is being linked to from a website called "HikingWorld".

They have linked to your travel blog as you have a great article about hikes in your local area.

You were able to obtain this backlink by reaching out to "HikingWorld" and sharing with them your fantastic article.

You would like to track this link in BacklinkTrack to ensure that you will know about it if it is ever lost or changed!

contact form

The first form captures the contacts' details; for our example, this is "HikingWorld".

A contact represents the organization that you have inbound or outbound links with.

Using the example above, the following values would be filled in the form:

  1. Organization name - In this field, you will put "HikingWorld".
  2. Organization owners - You know the owners of "HikingWorld" are John and Gary, so you will put "John and Gary" in this field.
  3. Primary contact person - John was the person that replied to you, so you will capture "John" in this field.
  4. Contact method - You spoke to John via email, so you will put "Email - [email protected]" in this field.

Link form(s)

Using the example we shared above, we have a single backlink to capture. So we will not be adding more link forms. If we had multiple links to capture - such as any links from our website to "HikingWorld" (outbound links), we would add them here as well.

To capture multiple inbound or outbound links, we would click the Add new link located within the form.

To complete the form using the example above, we would enter:

  1. Link direction - "Inbound" as "HikingWorld" provides a link that takes visitors to our blog article.
  2. Date link created - This would be when the link was created, which we will put "2020-01-01".
  3. Web page URL - We would put the full website address of the "HikingWorld" article that mentions our blog article, let's imagine this is "https://hikingworld.com/articles/great-hikes-in-vancouver".
  4. Expected link URL - We would put the full website address of our blog article here, this is the blog article that HikingWorld is sending their visitors to on our blog. Let's imagine this is "https://ourblog.com/blog/my-favourite-vancouver-hikes".
  5. Expected link text - In this field, we will capture the text that "HikingWorld" uses in the link to our website. Let's imagine the link text is "Best hikes in Vancouver".
  6. Audit manually? - You want BacklinkTrack to check this link for you automatically, so you will leave this field unchecked.
  7. Notes and hashtags - In this field, we will put the hashtag "#outreach". You are using this hashtag here as you would like to filter and view all links related to "outreach" when on the listing page.

Save the form

Once you have added all the related links for that contact, you can click the "save" button at the bottom of the form.

Within 30 minutes of creating any new inbound or outbound link, BacklinkTrack will audit the link once. Subsequent audits will depend on the frequency of your subscription plan.
