Getting Started via Import

If you have a large number of backlinks already captured, using the import tool is the best way to import those backlinks into BacklinkTrack.

The import tool will only add new links to your account. It does not update or overwrite existing links. If you would like to edit existing links, use the form.

Moving from Excel or Google Sheets

BacklinkTrack requires that the file used for import is in a specific format (CSV) with columns in a certain order.

If you have an existing Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets file that you use to manage your backlinks, we suggest you make a copy and reformat that copy into the column structure required by BacklinkTrack.

Supported CSV format

A CSV file can be created using the "Save As" menu option in Microsoft Excel or the "Download" menu option in Google Sheets. It is a text file with each column separated by commas.

The first row of the file (Row 1) is ignored as it is assumed this is a header row containing the name of each column.

The first 3 columns are required (Link direction , Web page URL, and Expected link URL). All other columns are optional.

Optional columns can be left blank.

If the same Organization name is used in multiple rows, these links will be grouped under the same contact.

Supported columns

  • Column A [Required] - Link direction
Set to 'Inbound' if someone is linking to a website you manage. Set to 'Outbound' if you are linking to someone else's website.
  • Column B [Required] - Web page URL
The address of the web page that contains the link (the source)
  • Column C [Required] - Expected link URL
The address of the web page the link takes you to (the destination)
  • Column D [Optional] - Expected link text
Optional. The text used in the link.
  • Column E [Optional] - Organization name
The name of the blog, website, or company. Keep the organization name exactly the same for multiple backlinks if you want the backlinks to be grouped under the same contact.
  • Column F [Optional] - Organization owners
The names of the owners of the organization
  • Column G [Optional] - Primary contact person
The individual to work with for link management
  • Column H [Optional] - Contact method
The method to contact the primary contact person (Email, Facebook Messenger, etc.)
  • Column I [Optional] - Requires manual audit
Set to 'Yes' if this should skip automated audits and 'No' if it should be checked automatically
  • Column J [Optional] - Date link created
The date the link was created in the format YYYY-MM-DD.
  • Column K [Optional] - Notes and hashtags
Optional. Capture any notes or thoughts about this backlink here for reference later. Use the "#" character in front of a word to create a hashtag. Hashtags can be used to filter links on the listings page.

Example file

Below is an example of the format we require. If you have an existing sheet, we suggest you make a copy and re-order and re-format your columns to match the below structure.
